Iain went to school in Stranraer (Wigtownshire) and Cumbria then attended Edinburgh Dental School in the 60’s where he was awarded a “Blue” for cross-country running. After graduation he went into general practice in Wokingham for two years, which was followed by specialist orthodontic training at the Eastman Dental Hospital in the 70’s. He played rugby for Henley, The London (Claudicans), Winchester, Bournemouth and BGS, but not necessarily in that order! Iain was Consultant orthodontist from 1979 to 2006 at Frenchay and at BDH and honorary lecturer to undergraduates, registrars and senior registrars. He became the licensee at BDH and the Hathorn bar was duly named after him. Iain was also Chairman of the British Orthodontic Society from 2006 until 2009. In retirement, he remains an expert armchair specialist in rugby, following Bristol closely and is a competent senior golfer and gardening assistant.
